Description: Mulan is a 1998 animated film that tells the story of a brave young woman named Fa Mulan. Set in Imperial Han China, the story begins when the ruthless Hun leader Shan Yu invades the country by breaching the Great Wall. The Emperor issues a general mobilization, requiring one man from each family to join the Imperial Chinese Army.
Fa Mulan, an adventurous and spirited young woman, struggles to conform to societal expectations. Her family hopes she will bring honor by becoming a suitable wife, but her meeting with a matchmaker ends in disaster, leaving her labeled a disgrace. When Mulan’s elderly father, Fa Zhou, is conscripted into the army despite his frail health, she decides to take matters into her own hands. Disguising herself as a man, she takes her father’s armor and sword, leaving home to enlist in his place.
Concerned for Mulan’s safety, her grandmother prays to the family ancestors for protection. In response, Mushu, a small and disgraced dragon, is tasked with awakening a powerful stone dragon to guide Mulan. However, Mushu accidentally destroys the dragon statue and decides to assist Mulan himself, hoping to redeem his status by helping her become a war hero.
Mulan, now posing as a man named “Fa Ping,” reports to the training camp. With Mushu’s often comical guidance, she navigates the challenges of military life while keeping her true identity a secret. The film follows her journey as she trains, fights, and ultimately proves her courage and worth in the face of adversity.
