Description: The film “Mrs. Chatterjee Vs Norway” (2023) is inspired by the real-life story of Sagarika Bhattacharya, who lived with her husband Anup Bhattacharya and their two children. The family relocated to Norway for work. In 2011, the Norwegian Child Welfare Services (Barnevernet) took custody of their children, citing concerns about improper care. Initially, the couple appealed the decision in a Norwegian court but were unsuccessful.
Desperate for help, they reached out to India’s Ministry of External Affairs for intervention. By this time, Sagarika had separated from her husband, and custody of the children was awarded to their paternal uncle. After a two-year legal battle, Sagarika successfully regained custody of her children in 2013, thanks to the intervention of the Indian Government and a ruling by the Calcutta High Court.
The film depicts this emotional and challenging struggle, capturing the resilience and determination of a mother fighting for her children.
