Description: Mr. Nobody, a 2009 film, tells the story of Nemo Nobody, an ordinary man living with his wife and three children. One day, he wakes up in the year 2092 as a 118-year-old mortal, now the last of his kind in a world where humanity has achieved immortality through cellular renewal. As Nemo nears the end of his life, people become fascinated with his story, eager to learn about life before immortality. A psychiatrist, Dr. Feldheim, uses hypnosis to uncover Nemo’s memories, while Nemo shares his experiences with a journalist.
Nemo’s recollections are filled with contradictions as he recounts his life at three pivotal moments: age 9, when his parents divorced; age 15, when he fell in love; and age 34, as an adult. Each moment branches into multiple possible outcomes, reflecting the choices he could have made.
Nemo explains that before birth, children remember their entire lives, but the Angels of Oblivion erase these memories at conception. Nemo, however, was overlooked, allowing him to “remember” different possible futures. At age 9, faced with his parents’ separation, Nemo must choose between staying with his father or leaving with his mother. In one scenario, he boards the train with his mother, while in another, he remains with his father.
When Nemo stays with his father, who later becomes disabled, he spends his time working in a shop and writing a science fiction story about a journey to Mars. At a school dance, he meets Elise and falls in love, but upon visiting her home, he discovers she has a much older boyfriend. Heartbroken, Nemo speeds away on his motorcycle, only to suffer a severe accident that leaves him in a vegetative state. Though he can sense the world around him, he cannot move or speak. Over time, he recalls the movements of his fingers on the typewriter and eventually manages to lift a finger, marking the end of this timeline.
The film explores themes of choice, memory, and the complex nature of time, presenting a thought-provoking narrative about the paths life can take.
