Storyline:
John (Brad Pitt), a construction executive, and Jane (Angelina Jolie), a tech support consultant, share their story during marriage counseling. Married for “five or six” years, their relationship has weakened to the point where they can’t recall their last intimate moment. They recount their first meeting in Bogotá, Colombia, where both were secretly evading Colombian authorities. To avoid suspicion after a recent assassination targeting solo travelers, they pretended to be a couple. Their chemistry was undeniable, leading to a quick marriage. John fondly remembers Jane as “Christmas morning” on their first meeting, while she saw him as “the most beautiful mark” she’d ever encountered.
Unbeknownst to each other, John and Jane are highly skilled assassins working for rival agencies. They maintain suburban lives in a Colonial Revival home, blending in with their wealthy neighbors. However, their secret professions and mundane marriage create tension. Their lives take a dramatic turn when they’re separately assigned to eliminate DIA prisoner Benjamin “the Tank” Danz (Adam Brody) during a transfer. Their unexpected encounter on the job leads to a failed mission, and they’re tasked with killing each other instead.
After multiple failed attempts on each other’s lives, their escalating conflict culminates in a violent shootout that nearly destroys their home. In a tense standoff, they point guns at each other. John, reignited by his feelings for Jane, refuses to shoot and lowers his weapon. Jane, unable to pull the trigger either, shares a passionate and intense reconciliation with him.
