Description: In 1899 Paris, a young man named Christian, struggling with depression, starts writing his story titled “Nature Boy.” A year earlier, he moved to the Montmartre district to join the Bohemian movement. There, he meets a group of performers led by Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec and helps them complete their show, “Spectacular Spectacular,” which they aim to sell to Harold Zidler, the owner of the Moulin Rouge. Upon arriving at the Moulin Rouge, Christian witnesses Zidler and his “Diamond Dog Dancers” performing. Toulouse arranges for Christian to present the show to Satine, the star courtesan, unaware that Zidler has already promised Satine to the Duke of Monroth, a potential investor.
Satine mistakes Christian for the Duke, and they share a dance before retreating to her chamber. She soon learns that Christian is merely a writer. When the Duke interrupts, Christian and Satine claim they were rehearsing “Spectacular Spectacular.” With the help of Zidler, Toulouse, and the troupe, they pitch the show to the Duke, improvising a plot about an evil maharajah trying to win the heart of an Indian courtesan who loves a poor sitar player. The Duke agrees to fund the show on the condition that he alone can court Satine. As the cabaret transforms into a theater, Christian and Satine secretly meet under the guise of rehearsing. However, when the Duke grows suspicious and threatens to withdraw his support, Satine’s health deteriorates due to tuberculosis, adding another layer of complexity to their story.
