Description: “Moshari” (2022) is a gripping horror film set in a dystopian world overtaken by bloodthirsty creatures. The story unfolds in Dhaka, Bangladesh, where the remnants of humanity survive by taking refuge in “moshari,” a traditional South Asian mosquito net that serves as their only protection against the unknown threat.
The narrative centers on two sisters, Apu and Ayra, who must navigate this perilous new reality. While external dangers loom, their strained relationship poses an equally significant challenge. One fateful night, Ayra’s curiosity leads her beyond the safety of the moshari, forcing Apu to confront her fears and rally to protect them both. Together, the sisters face their inner demons and the horrors outside.
The film has garnered critical acclaim, winning the “Best Short Fiction” award at the Oscar-qualifying Melbourne International Film Festival and the “Best Horror” award at the 18th Annual HollyShorts Film Festival (HSFF). HollyShorts, an Oscar-qualifying festival based in Los Angeles, showcases outstanding short films from around the world.
Director Nuhash Humayun shared the exciting news of the film’s success on social media, expressing pride in its recognition at both festivals. He highlighted the collaborative effort of the team, spread across LA, Australia, and Canada, to receive the awards.
“Moshari” has also been selected for prestigious events like Marché du Film at the Cannes Festival and the Fantastic 7 section of the Sitges International Fantastic Film Festival of Catalonia. This chilling tale of survival and sibling bonds continues to captivate audiences and critics alike.
