**Storyline:**
Mookuthi Amman (meaning “Nose-Ring Goddess”) is a 2020 Indian Tamil-language fantasy film. It marks the directorial debut of RJ Balaji, who also co-directed it with N. J. Saravanan. The movie features Nayanthara and Balaji in lead roles, supported by Urvashi, Smruthi Venkat, Madhu Mailankody, Abinaya, Moulee, and Ajay Ghosh. The plot revolves around a news anchor who teams up with the goddess Mookuthi Amman to expose a fraudulent godman. The film premiered on Disney+ Hotstar on November 14, 2020, coinciding with Diwali.
The story follows Engels Ramasamy, a news anchor from Nagercoil, who lives with his single mother, grandfather, and three sisters. Due to their financial struggles and his father’s abandonment, Engels faces repeated rejections in marriage proposals. The family plans a trip to the Venkateswara Temple in Tirupati but cancels it when the youngest sister comes of age. Instead, they decide to visit their family deity, Mookuthi Amman’s temple, located in Vellimalai, 13.9 kilometers from Nagercoil.
Upon arrival, they find the temple in ruins. After cleaning it and staying overnight, Engels witnesses Mookuthi Amman appearing in human form. She reveals that only he can see her, as he is a god-chosen child. In exchange for improving his family’s life, she tasks him with popularizing her temple. Engels agrees, and together, they return to Nagercoil to fulfill his family’s dreams with the goddess’s help. Upon reaching home, Engels begins by asking his eldest sister about her desires.
