Description: The 2003 film “Monster” tells the story of Aileen Wuornos, a street prostitute who moves from Michigan to Daytona Beach, Florida, in 1989. Struggling with suicidal thoughts, Aileen meets Selby Wall at a gay bar. Despite her initial hostility and denial of being gay, Aileen begins to bond with Selby over drinks. Selby is drawn to Aileen’s protective nature and invites her to stay the night. Their relationship deepens as they spend time together, culminating in their first kiss at a roller skating rink. However, with no place to go, Selby eventually returns to her aunt’s house.
After a brutal assault by a client, Vincent Corey, Aileen kills him in self-defense and vows to leave prostitution. She confides in Selby, who is frustrated by their financial struggles. Aileen attempts to find legitimate work but faces rejection due to her criminal past and lack of qualifications. Desperate, she returns to prostitution but begins robbing and killing her clients, convinced they all pose a threat. She spares one man out of pity and nearly another who offers help, but she is forced to shoot him when he discovers her gun. Aileen uses the stolen money to support herself and Selby.
As news of the murders spreads, Selby grows suspicious and confronts Aileen. Aileen claims she acted in self-defense, but Selby, unable to accept this, leaves for Ohio on a bus. The film explores themes of survival, desperation, and the complexities of human relationships.
