Description: “Monkey King Reborn,” initially set for a summer 2020 release, faced delays and was showcased as a work-in-progress at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in 2020, along with a promotional video. The first official trailer debuted in August 2020, followed by a promotional poster on October 10, 2020, announcing its release for February 12, 2021, coinciding with Chinese New Year. The film premiered in IMAX theaters in China on February 6, 2021, with additional screenings on February 9, earning $21.3 million in its opening weekend. “New Gods: Nezha Reborn,” a 2021 Chinese 3D animated fantasy action film directed by Zhao Ji, reimagines the ancient character Nezha in a steampunk and cyberpunk setting. The story follows Li Yunxiang, a young motorbike rider in Donghai City, who discovers he is the reincarnation of Nezha and must confront a 3,000-year-old conflict with the Dragon Clan. Released on February 12, 2021, in mainland China, the film later became available globally on Netflix starting April 12, 2021. Despite similarities, it is unrelated to the 2019 film “Ne Zha,” as both originated from different production companies and draw loosely from the same Ming Dynasty novel.
