Description: Molly Bloom, a world-class skier with Olympic dreams, sees her career derailed after a severe injury during a qualifying event for the 2002 Winter Olympics. Instead of pursuing law school, Molly takes a year off and moves to Los Angeles. There, she works as a bottle service waitress at a club, where she meets Dean, a flashy but struggling real estate developer. Molly becomes his office manager and soon gets involved in organizing his underground poker games at a venue called “The Cobra Lounge.” The games attract a wealthy clientele, including celebrities, bankers, and athletes, earning Molly significant tips.
Though initially unfamiliar with poker, Molly quickly learns the ropes and aims to impress Player X, the most successful player, by bringing in new participants. As Molly gains independence in managing the games, Dean becomes controlling and eventually fires her. Undeterred, Molly leverages her contacts to start her own poker operation. She rents a penthouse and assembles a team to run the games, spreading the word through club and casino employees.
Player X and other players transition from Dean’s games to Molly’s, increasing her success. However, the stakes rise under pressure from Player X. Harlan Eustice, a skilled and conservative player, joins Molly’s games but suffers heavy losses after losing to the group’s weakest player, leading to compulsive behavior.
