Description: Set in April 2054 in Washington, D.C., the story revolves around the experimental “PreCrime” police division, which stops murders before they happen. This is made possible through three clairvoyant individuals known as “Precogs,” connected to a computer system. These Precogs can foresee violent crimes driven by extreme emotions before the perpetrator commits the act. Potential criminals are then detained in a virtual reality prison. As a result, premeditated murders have almost disappeared, though impulsive crimes of passion remain a challenge. The federal government is considering implementing this system nationwide.
The protagonist, John Anderton, a PreCrime captain played by Tom Cruise, is haunted by the disappearance of his son, Sean. Struggling with addiction and estranged from his wife, Lara, Anderton’s life takes a drastic turn when the Precogs predict that he will murder a man named Leo Crow in 36 hours. Fearing the accusation, Anderton goes on the run while being pursued by Department of Justice agent Danny Witwer.
As Anderton seeks to clear his name, he uncovers a hidden flaw in the PreCrime system: occasionally, one of the Precogs, usually Agatha, has a vision that differs from the others, known as the “minority report.” This revelation could undermine the system’s credibility. Determined to prove his innocence, Anderton undergoes a risky eye transplant to evade detection and kidnaps Agatha to retrieve the minority report.
However, instead of finding evidence related to Leo Crow, Agatha reveals a vision of the unsolved murder of Ann Lively, a woman drowned five years earlier. This discovery sets Anderton on a path to uncover deeper secrets within the PreCrime program.
