Description: Minnal Murali is a 2021 Indian Malayalam-language superhero adventure film directed by Basil Joseph and produced by Sophia Paul under the banner of Weekend Blockbusters. The film was officially announced in January 2019. Extensive pre-production work delayed the principal photography, which began in December 2019. Filming faced disruptions due to two waves of the COVID-19 pandemic and the vandalism of a church set by right-wing groups. Despite these challenges, the team completed shooting by July 2021. The movie was primarily filmed in Kerala, with some scenes shot in Hassan, Karnataka. The music was composed by Shaan Rahman and Sushin Shyam, with Shyam also handling the background score. Sameer Thahir was the cinematographer, and Livingston Mathew edited the film.
Originally slated for a late-2020 theatrical release, the film was postponed multiple times due to the pandemic. In September 2021, it was announced that Minnal Murali would premiere directly on Netflix on December 24, 2021, bypassing theaters due to ongoing COVID-19 restrictions. The film premiered at the Mumbai Film Festival on December 16, 2021, before its Netflix debut. It was released in multiple languages, including Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Hindi, and English.
The story follows a tailor who gains superpowers after being struck by lightning. He must face an unexpected enemy to become the superhero his hometown needs. During July 2019, Aju Varghese joined the cast in a pivotal role and assisted in casting the lead actress. Actress Femina George was selected for the heroine’s role, named “Bruce Lee” Biji. Tamil actor Guru Somasundaram was also cast in a significant role. Hollywood stunt choreographer Vlad Rimburg supervised the action sequences. Tovino Thomas, the lead actor, underwent extensive training to portray the superhero role convincingly.
