Description: In the 2016 movie “Mine,” US Marine sniper Mike Stevens and his spotter Tommy Madison are on a covert mission in North Africa to eliminate a dangerous terrorist leader attending a Bedouin wedding. Mike hesitates and misses the shot when the target’s son gets in the way, leading to their discovery due to a glare off the sniper scope. A sandstorm allows them to escape, but they are left stranded. Ordered to reach a village for evacuation, disaster strikes when Tommy steps on a landmine, losing his legs. Moments later, Mike also steps on a mine but manages to avoid triggering it. In a desperate act, Tommy sacrifices himself to prevent Mike from stepping off the mine to help him.
Now alone, Mike communicates with his superior, who informs him that rescue will take days. Exposed to the brutal desert environment, Mike struggles with the psychological and physical toll of his predicament, haunted by memories of Tommy, his girlfriend, his parents, and his childhood. Throughout his ordeal, he encounters a Berber man, who lost his leg and daughter to a landmine. The Berber, who speaks some English, encourages Mike to step off the mine and embrace life, calling him fortunate for surviving the harsh conditions and a night attack by desert dogs. The film explores themes of survival, resilience, and the human spirit in the face of extreme adversity.
