Description: Mili is a 2022 Indian Hindi-language survival thriller film directed by Mathukutty Xavier. It is a remake of his own 2019 Malayalam film, Helen. Produced by Boney Kapoor and Zee Studios, the movie stars Janhvi Kapoor, Sunny Kaushal, and Manoj Pahwa. The story revolves around the titular character, Mili Naudiyal, a 24-year-old nursing graduate who gets trapped in a freezer and struggles to survive.
Principal photography took place from August to November 2021 in Mumbai and Dehradun. The film’s music was composed by A. R. Rahman, with lyrics by Javed Akhtar. Distributed by Zee Studios, Mili was released in theaters on November 4, 2022.
In August 2020, Boney Kapoor acquired the rights to remake the Malayalam film Helen in Hindi. A year later, the title of the remake, Mili, was announced. Mathukutty Xavier, the director of the original film, was retained for the Hindi version. Initially, Xavier had declined offers to remake Helen in Hindi, but he agreed when Kapoor approached him with the idea of casting his daughter, Janhvi Kapoor, in the lead role.
Ritesh Shah was brought on as the screenwriter to adapt the script for Hindi-speaking audiences. Noble Babu Thomas, who played a lead role in Helen, served as the creative director for the remake. Janhvi Kapoor stars as Mili Naudiyal, while Sunny Kaushal portrays her boyfriend. Kaushal aimed to bring his own interpretation to the role, rather than imitating Thomas’s performance. Xavier considered casting Boney Kapoor as Mili’s father but decided against it, feeling it would be too gimmicky.
Mili is a gripping tale of survival, combining intense drama with heartfelt storytelling.
