Description: Michael Clayton is a professional “fixer” at a top New York City law firm, leveraging his expertise and connections to navigate legal complexities for clients. However, he faces personal financial troubles after a failed investment with his brother, Timmy, who used the funds to fuel his drug addiction. Michael owes $75,000 to a loan shark and has only a week to repay it. Desperate, he turns to his boss, Marty Bach, for assistance. Marty warns that the firm could face ruin if Michael fails to rein in Arthur Edens, a high-profile attorney at the firm who has gone off his medication and is acting erratically.
One evening, Michael leaves a poker game to assist a client involved in a hit-and-run accident. On his way home, he notices three horses in a field and stops to investigate. As he approaches them, his car explodes from a bomb planted inside.
Four days earlier, Arthur experiences a manic episode during a deposition in Milwaukee involving a major class action lawsuit against U-North, a corporate giant accused of selling a carcinogenic weed killer linked to 468 deaths. Michael bails Arthur out of jail but loses control of him as Arthur flees to New York. Meanwhile, U-North’s legal team discovers Arthur possesses a confidential memo proving the company knew about the weed killer’s dangers. Karen Crowder, U-North’s general counsel, takes drastic measures, hiring hitmen to track Arthur and monitor his communications.
