**Storyline:**
Fans of the ventilation industry, claustrophilia, or iconic crawling-through-service-ducts scenes from 80s action films like *Aliens* and *Die Hard* will find *Meander* particularly thrilling. This confined sci-fi puzzle thriller revives the use of the word “fiendish” in reviews, a term often associated with Vincenzo Natali’s 1997 film *Cube*. *Meander* shares a striking resemblance to *Cube*, as it is set almost entirely within a series of narrow vents filled with devious traps.
The story begins briefly with Lisa (Gaia Weiss), a woman in a woolly hat lying on a snowy track, contemplating suicide. She is picked up by Adam (Peter Franzén), a gravel-voiced driver. As their conversation turns existential, Lisa notices a tattoo on Adam’s hand, realizing he is the escaped murderer mentioned on the radio. He attacks her, and she wakes up inside a small industrial space with perforated walls. Her only escape seems to be through a hatch leading to a tight corridor, where the roof begins to close in just a few feet ahead.
Despite its title, which suggests a leisurely park stroll, *Meander* delivers a tense rat-in-a-maze narrative that is hard to ruin, even if some traps feel uninspired. Gaia Weiss, a former ballet dancer, embraces the physical demands of her role, combining her agility with a soulful intensity reminiscent of Noomi Rapace. Her close-ups effectively convey the inner turmoil brought to the surface in this high-pressure environment. However, the subplot about her deceased daughter feels forced and less engaging than the relentless pursuit by the mysterious troglodyte.
