Description: “Me, Myself & Irene,” released in 2000, is a comedy film starring Jim Carrey as Charlie Baileygates, a Rhode Island state trooper. Charlie has a kind-hearted nature but is constantly mistreated by those around him, including his wife Layla, who cheats on him with their wedding limo driver, Shonté, a genius-level IQ dwarf. Despite warnings from friends, Charlie remains in denial about Layla’s infidelity. When she abandons him and their biracial triplets (Jamal, Lee Harvey, and Shonté Jr.), Charlie raises the boys alone. Over time, the town’s continuous abuse leads Charlie to develop an alternate personality named Hank, a brash and aggressive persona that emerges during moments of extreme stress. A psychiatrist prescribes medication to suppress Hank.
Charlie’s commanding officer assigns him to escort Irene Waters (Renée Zellweger) from Rhode Island to Massena, New York, believing it will serve as a vacation. Irene is accused of a hit-and-run, though she claims her mob-connected ex-boyfriend Dickie fabricated the charges to silence her. Meanwhile, Hank begins to surface more frequently as Charlie loses his medication during their journey. The duo faces danger when a hitman targets Irene, and Charlie is wrongfully accused of murder. Pursued by FBI agents and corrupt police officers on Dickie’s payroll, Charlie and Irene form a bond while evading capture. The situation becomes a media frenzy, alerting Charlie’s sons to his predicament. Eventually, they return to Rhode Island, where their relationship deepens amidst the chaos.”
