**Storyline:**
William “Will” Traynor is a prosperous banker and an active individual who shares a solid relationship with his girlfriend, Alicia. One morning, while they are in bed, Will receives a call summoning him to work. On his way, distracted by a phone conversation, he accidentally steps in front of a speeding motorcycle. The accident leaves him paralyzed from the neck down, confining him to a motorized wheelchair permanently.
Two years later, Louisa “Lou” Clark is introduced as a cheerful and sociable woman who supports her working-class family. After losing her job at a local café, she is hired as a companion for Will Traynor. Despite her lack of experience, Will’s mother believes Lou’s optimistic nature will help improve his spirits. Will spends most of his time with his nurse, Nathan, who understands that Will’s spinal cord injury makes recovery impossible. Nathan assists Will with all physical tasks, including movement, exercise, and dressing.
Initially, Will’s cynicism and depression lead him to react coldly to Lou’s cheerful attitude, treating her with disdain. However, after a visit from his former best friend, Rupert, and his ex-girlfriend, Alicia—who announce their engagement—Will’s anger surfaces, resulting in a heated moment with Lou. Despite this, the two gradually bond as they spend more time together. Lou discovers that Will is cultured and well-traveled, unlike her, whose life has been simple and uneventful. Meanwhile, her long-term boyfriend, Patrick, prioritizes his training for a Viking triathlon over their relationship.
