The story revolves around Derek Cho, who introduces the audience to the ID-7 “Red Eye” virus, a global pathogen that spreads rapidly. While not deadly, it affects neural pathways, erasing inhibitions and moral integrity, leading people to act on their darkest impulses, including committing murder. Nevil Reed becomes the first person to commit a murder driven by the virus but is deemed not liable due to its influence. Derek, a lawyer at Towers and Smythe Consulting (TSC), discovers a legal loophole that wins Reed’s case, securing himself a promotion. However, Derek’s ambition causes him to lose his moral compass, neglecting his family as he climbs the corporate ladder.
One morning, Derek encounters Melanie Cross, a desperate client seeking an extension on her loan. Derek dismisses her, calling security to remove her. Later, he discovers his superior, Kara Powell, has pinned a botched legal case for the massive Vanda Corp. on him. Derek confronts Kara, and both argue their cases before company head John Towers, who fires Derek. The HR chief, Lester “The Reaper” McGill, offers a generous severance package in exchange for Derek taking responsibility, but Derek refuses, fearing disbarment and lawsuits.
As security escorts Derek out, the building is placed under quarantine after the ID-7 virus is detected in the ventilation system. A neutralizing agent is released, requiring eight hours to eliminate the virus. In the meantime, everyone in the building is infected, leading to chaos, violence, and uninhibited behavior. Derek attempts to reach the top floor to confront Towers and the board of directors, but Towers sends him to the basement, where he is assaulted by the enforcer, Colton “The Bull” Snyder. Derek’s friend Ewan arrives to help but is accidentally killed by Colton, pushing Derek into further fury.
