**Storyline:**
Vinod Kumar, portrayed by Dilip Kumar, is a principled and honest man who runs a newspaper called “Mashaal.” Through his publication, Vinod exposes societal injustices and corruption. His wife, Sudha, played by Waheeda Rehman, encounters a homeless man named Raja, portrayed by Anil Kapoor, and tries to instill values and discipline in him. Initially skeptical, Vinod eventually accepts Raja after hearing about his tragic past. Raja begins to see Sudha as a mother figure, and Vinod decides to support him by sending him to Bangalore for education and training to become a journalist.
During his time in Bangalore, Raja befriends Geeta, an aspiring journalist and assistant at Vinod’s newspaper, played by Rati Agnihotri, and they develop a romantic relationship. Meanwhile, Vinod uncovers the corrupt activities of S.K. Vardhan, a wealthy and influential figure in society, played by Amrish Puri. S.K. is involved in drug trafficking and illegal alcohol trade. Vinod exposes these crimes in his newspaper, but S.K. retaliates by having Vinod evicted from his home and orchestrating the burning down of his newspaper office.
Tragedy strikes when Sudha, already ill, passes away on the streets, leaving Vinod shattered. Realizing that S.K.’s power and influence make him untouchable, Vinod adopts a new strategy. He decides to fight corruption by adopting S.K.’s methods. Partnering with Kishorilal, played by Saeed Jaffrey, Vinod enters the illegal hooch business and other unlawful activities to amass wealth.
Unaware of Vinod’s transformation, Raja continues his studies in Bangalore. Geeta, however, becomes aware of Vinod’s actions and grows disillusioned with him, eventually leaving to work for another newspaper. The story unfolds as Vinod’s struggle against corruption takes a dark turn, highlighting the complexities of morality and justice.
