Description: Mary Poppins is a beloved 1964 film set in Edwardian London during the spring of 1910. The story begins as George Banks returns home to 17 Cherry Tree Lane, where his wife, Winifred, informs him that the family’s nanny, Katie Nanna, has quit after the children, Jane and Michael, ran away for the fourth time that week. The children are brought back by Constable Jones, who explains they were chasing a lost kite. Jane and Michael ask their father to help them build a better kite, but he dismisses their request.
Determined to hire a strict nanny, Mr. Banks places an advertisement for a no-nonsense caregiver. However, the children create their own advertisement for a kind and gentle nanny. When Mr. Banks tears up their letter and throws it into the fireplace, a magical wind carries the pieces up the chimney.
The next day, as several stern nannies wait outside the Banks’ home, a powerful gust of wind blows them away. Jane and Michael witness the arrival of Mary Poppins, a magical nanny who descends from the sky using her umbrella. She presents the children’s restored advertisement to Mr. Banks, agreeing to their requests while promising to be firm. Mary Poppins convinces Mr. Banks that hiring her was his idea and quickly establishes herself in the household.
Mary Poppins uses her magic to tidy the children’s nursery with a snap of her fingers and takes them on a walk in the park. There, they meet Bert, a street painter and Mary’s old friend. With her magic, Mary transports the group into one of Bert’s paintings, where they enjoy a carousel ride. Mary Poppins and Bert share a leisurely stroll, flirting and singing together.
