Description: John W. Creasy, a former CIA officer, travels to Mexico to visit his old friend, Paul Rayburn. At Rayburn’s urging, Creasy accepts a bodyguard position for Samuel Ramos, a Mexican automaker whose young daughter, Lupita “Pita” Ramos, needs protection. The job also involves a kidnapping insurance policy.
Creasy battles alcoholism and struggles with guilt and burnout from his CIA past. A suicide attempt fails when his gun misfires, prompting him to refocus on his new role. He forms a close bond with Pita, coaching her to overcome her fear of the starter gun at swim meets. Under his guidance, she wins a competition.
One day, while waiting for Pita outside her piano lesson, Creasy notices suspicious activity. Two federal police officers block the street, and a car circles the area. As Pita exits, Creasy warns her to run, but she freezes. Kidnappers attempt to seize her, but Creasy intervenes, killing three attackers and wounding a fourth before being critically injured. Despite his efforts, Pita is abducted.
While recovering, Creasy is relocated to a veterinary clinic for safety, as the corrupt police seek revenge for the deaths of their colleagues. He refuses to cooperate with AFI agent Miguel Manzano’s investigation but later connects with reporter Mariana Garcia Guerrero, who offers to assist him in finding Pita.
