Description: “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” is a 2018 jukebox musical romantic comedy directed by Ol Parker, with a screenplay by Parker, Catherine Johnson, and Richard Curtis. Serving as both a sequel and prequel to the 2008 film “Mamma Mia!”, this installment continues the whimsical story inspired by the ABBA-inspired musical. The film features an ensemble cast including Amanda Seyfried, Dominic Cooper, Pierce Brosnan, Colin Firth, Lily James, and Meryl Streep.
The narrative alternates between two timelines: the present, following the events of the first film, and 1979, exploring Donna’s youthful adventures. Many scenes cleverly mirror each other across the timelines.
Following the commercial success of its predecessor, Universal Pictures greenlit the sequel, officially announced in May 2017. Filming took place from August to November 2017 in locations such as Croatia, Bordeaux, Stockholm, and the UK.
Released on July 20, 2018, exactly ten years after the first film, “Mamma Mia! Here We Go Again” premiered in London and became a box office hit, earning $402 million globally. Critics praised the performances, musical sequences, and overall improvements over the original. The film is dedicated to production designer Alan Macdonald.
