Description: “Major” is a 2022 Indian biographical action drama film directed by Sashi Kiran Tikka and produced by Sony Pictures International Productions, G. Mahesh Babu Entertainment, and A+S Movies. Filmed in both Telugu and Hindi, the movie chronicles the life of Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, an army officer who lost his life during the 2008 Mumbai attacks. Adivi Sesh plays the lead role, marking his debut in Hindi cinema, and also contributed to the screenplay. The cast includes Prakash Raj, Sobhita Dhulipala, Saiee Manjrekar, Revathi, Murali Sharma, and Anish Kuruvilla.
Principal photography commenced in February 2020 and concluded in December 2021, with filming delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The production spanned 120 days and was shot across more than 75 locations. The film had a limited theatrical release in select Indian cities on May 24, 2022, followed by a global release on June 3, 2022.
The story revolves around Major Sandeep Unnikrishnan, who was born to ISRO officer K. Unnikrishnan Nair and Dhanalakshmi in Bangalore. His family originally hailed from Cheruvannur in Kerala’s Kozhikode District. Sandeep attended Frank Anthony Public School in Bangalore for 14 years, graduating in the ISC Science stream. From a young age, he aspired to join the Indian Army. Although his parents initially hesitated, they eventually supported his dream when they recognized his dedication to serving the nation.
In 1995, Sandeep joined the National Defence Academy (NDA) in Pune, Maharashtra, as part of the Oscar Squadron (No. 4 Battalion) and graduated from the 94th Course NDA. He later attended the Indian Military Academy (IMA) in Dehradun, completing the 104th Regular Course. On June 12, 1999, he graduated from IMA and was commissioned as a Lieutenant in the 7th Battalion of the Bihar Regiment. Between 1999 and 2007, Sandeep climbed the ranks, becoming an NSG commando and eventually a trainer for commandos. During this time, he also married his childhood friend, Isha.
