**Storyline:**
In the opening scenes of *Magamuni*, Arya portrays an inmate in an asylum, briefly hinting at a sequel-like setup reminiscent of *Naan Kadavul*. However, the film quickly shifts to a flashback, revealing how the character, Magadevan, ended up in the asylum. Initially, Maga is a cab driver who finds himself in a frustrating situation when a speeding vehicle damages his rearview mirror. Trapped in traffic, he receives a call from his wife, Viji (Indhuja), asking for money, but his cab operator refuses. This scene foreshadows Maga’s struggles later in the story, where he faces heightened stakes.
Maga is also involved in plotting murders for a local politician, Muthuraj (Ilavarasu). When the relatives of a victim he targeted seek revenge, Maga is left vulnerable and in need of funds to protect himself. Muthuraj, who owes him payment for previous killings, refuses to pay, forcing Maga to undertake a new, dangerous assignment that further complicates his life.
Director Santhakumar skillfully alternates between Maga’s story and that of Muniraj (also played by Arya), a sharp-minded individual from a lower caste living in Erode district with his mother. Muni’s life is threatened due to a misunderstanding with Deepa (Mahima Nambiar), the progressive daughter of Jayaraman (Jayaprakash), a powerful village leader. Jayaraman, mistaking Muni’s intellect for romantic interest with his daughter, seeks to eliminate him.
Similar to *Thadam* earlier in 2019, *Magamuni* creatively explores the trope of estranged twins, keeping the audience guessing about whether Maga and Muni are two different individuals or the same person.
