**Storyline:**
David Robey, a wealthy City of London trader and serial killer, kidnaps cleaner Callum Aldrich. DCI John Luther, played by Idris Elba, who has recently solved the Lake Serial Killers case, is assigned to the investigation. He promises Callum’s mother, Corrine, that he will find her son. Robey, concerned about Luther’s involvement, uncovers evidence of Luther’s past illegal activities as a police officer, leading to Luther’s dismissal, prosecution, and imprisonment.
Years later, Robey lures Corrine and the parents of other victims to a property where he burns the remains of their children. Corrine visits Luther in prison, blaming him for failing to catch her son’s killer. Robey then sends a recording of Callum’s murder to Luther via an AM radio frequency. Using a hidden phone, Luther contacts DCI Odette Raine, the new head of Serious and Serial Crime, about the broadcast. With the help of corrupt prison guards and former associate McCabe, Luther escapes custody.
Raine consults retired DSU Martin Schenk to locate Luther. Luther traces the radio transmission and obtains a phone number from one of Robey’s blackmail victims, which he passes to Schenk. The number leads them to Piccadilly Circus, where Raine deploys SCO19 officers. Luther and Raine confront Robey, but chaos ensues as blackmailed individuals commit suicide by jumping from buildings and crashing cars. Luther chases Robey into the London Underground, but Robey escapes after stabbing an Authorised Firearms Officer.
Luther helps the injured officer, who later dies. Meanwhile, Robey is revealed to be collaborating with DS Archie Woodward, Raine’s subordinate. Robey kidnaps Raine’s daughter Anya and threatens her over the phone.
