The story follows Linda Susan Boreman, a 20-year-old living with her parents in Florida after relocating from New York City. One evening, while out dancing with her best friend Patsy, Linda meets Chuck Traynor, an older man. Their relationship develops quickly after Linda confides in Chuck about her strained relationship with her parents, which worsened after she gave birth to a child out of wedlock and was pressured by her domineering mother, Dorothy, to put the baby up for adoption.
Chuck introduces Linda to sexual exploration, which she initially finds thrilling. However, after breaking curfew and being scolded by her mother, Linda decides to move in with Chuck, eventually marrying him. She later discovers Chuck’s involvement in pornography when she watches one of his homemade films during a party, expressing her disapproval by stating that “good girls never do things like that.”
Six months later, Linda bails Chuck out of jail for facilitating prostitution. In need of money, he convinces her to venture into the adult film industry. By 1972, Linda, now using the stage name “Linda Lovelace,” stars in the groundbreaking film *Deep Throat*. The movie becomes a massive success, earning over $30,000 in its first week and turning Linda into a global phenomenon. She gains media attention, appears in magazines, attends glamorous parties, and becomes a subject of late-night television humor.
During a private screening in Los Angeles, Hugh Hefner, the founder of *Playboy*, encourages Linda to explore opportunities beyond adult films. However, beneath the surface, Linda’s life is far from perfect. Chuck’s abusive behavior becomes increasingly evident as he mistreats her, refuses to stop when she asks during intimate moments, and even forces her into prostitution at gunpoint.
The film portrays the tumultuous and dark side of Linda Lovelace’s rise to fame, revealing the complexities of her life and relationships.
