Description: Oliver Barrett IV, the heir of a wealthy upper-class family on the East Coast, attends Harvard College, where he plays ice hockey. He meets Jennifer “Jenny” Cavilleri, a sharp-witted, working-class student from Radcliffe College studying classical music. Despite their differences, they quickly fall in love.
When Jenny reveals her plans to study in Paris, Oliver is hurt that she hasn’t included him. He proposes, and she accepts. They visit Oliver’s parents, who are critical and unimpressed with Jenny. Oliver’s father threatens to cut him off financially if he marries her. Despite this, the couple marries after graduation.
Without financial support from his father, Oliver struggles to pay for Harvard Law School while Jenny works as a teacher. Oliver graduates third in his class and secures a position at a prestigious New York City law firm. The couple decides to start a family but struggles to conceive. After medical tests, Oliver learns that Jenny is terminally ill.
Oliver tries to maintain a normal life without telling Jenny about her condition, but she discovers the truth after confronting her doctor. He buys tickets to Paris, but she declines, preferring to spend her remaining time with him. To cover Jenny’s cancer treatment, Oliver approaches his estranged father, who reluctantly provides financial assistance.
From her hospital bed, Jenny makes funeral arrangements with her father and asks to see Oliver. She reassures him not to blame himself, emphasizing that their love was worth it and that he never held her back from her passion for music. Her final wish is for him to hold her tightly before she passes away.
