Description: Simon Spier, a high school student from Atlanta, Georgia, is secretly gay. He has a supportive family, including his parents Emily and Jack, and his sister Nora, along with three close friends: Nick, Leah, and Abby. One day, Leah tells Simon about an online confession from a fellow student, who goes by the pseudonym “Blue” and is also closeted. Simon starts emailing Blue under the name “Jacques,” and they begin sharing personal details, forming a bond. However, their emails are accidentally discovered by Martin, another student obsessed with Abby. Martin blackmails Simon, threatening to expose his secret unless Simon helps him win Abby’s affection. Simon starts searching for Blue among his classmates.
At a Halloween party, Simon tries to connect with Bram, only to find him kissing another girl. Nick confides in Simon about his feelings for Abby, but Simon lies, claiming Abby has a boyfriend in college. Leah, after helping Simon get home, hints at her intense feelings for someone, which Simon assumes is Nick.
Later, Simon, Abby, and Martin meet at a diner to practice for a school musical. Simon bonds with their server, Lyle, and suspects he might be Blue. That evening, Simon comes out to Abby, who reacts with support.
During a school football game, Simon encounters Lyle but learns he’s actually interested in Abby. Frustrated, Simon tells Martin to take bold action in pursuing Abby. Martin interrupts the national anthem to publicly declare his feelings, but Abby rejects him, leaving Martin humiliated and the target of ridicule.
