Jai Vardhan Singh (Saif Ali Khan) and Meera Pandit (Deepika Padukone) are a contemporary couple living in London. While they are content with their relationship, they prefer not to bind each other. When career opportunities arise, they mutually decide to part ways but remain friends. Meera moves to India, while Jai stays in London, hoping to secure his dream job in San Francisco with Golden Gate Inc. As time passes, Jai begins a relationship with Jo, a Swiss girl (Florence Brudenell-Bruce), while Meera develops feelings for her boss, Vikram Joshi (Rahul Khanna). Both believe they have moved on.
Running parallel to this modern-day story is the tale of Veer Singh Panesar (Rishi Kapoor), set in the past. Veer, a staunch believer in love, shares his own romantic journey with Jai to encourage him not to let Meera slip away. He recounts his deep affection for Harleen Kaur (Giselle Monteiro), a girl he was determined to marry even before properly conversing with her. Initially skeptical, Jai eventually decides to surprise Meera with a visit to India.
During their reunion, Jai and Meera realize how much they still enjoy each other’s company. Jai ends his relationship with Jo as he cannot match her deeper emotions. Meanwhile, Vikram proposes to Meera on the day Jai is set to leave. Conflicted, Meera secretly meets Jai, who urges her to make a decision. Frustrated, Meera asks him to stay out of her life to truly move on. In Veer’s story, Harleen reveals she is engaged without his knowledge, forcing him to leave her heartbroken.
As Jai finally secures his dream job in San Francisco, Meera realizes her impending marriage to Vikram is a mistake. She confesses her feelings to Vikram and calls Jai, but he informs her about his new job. Heartbroken, she decides not to share her true feelings. Meanwhile, Veer confronts Harleen’s family, declaring his intention to marry her, but faces severe consequences.
This dual narrative explores the complexities of love across generations, highlighting the enduring power of true connection.
