Description: Locke is a 2014 drama film that follows the story of Ivan Locke, a construction foreman who faces a life-altering situation. On the eve of overseeing the largest concrete pour in European history at a Birmingham site, Locke receives news that Bethan, a former colleague with whom he had a brief affair, has gone into premature labor. Despite his professional responsibilities and his family’s anticipation of watching an important football match together, Locke decides to drive to London to support Bethan during childbirth. Determined not to repeat his own father’s mistakes of abandonment, Locke commits to being present, even though he has no emotional connection to Bethan.
During his hour-and-a-half journey, Locke manages a series of 36 phone calls. He speaks with his boss, Gareth, who fires him for leaving the critical job site; his colleague Donal, whom he guides through the concrete pour despite complications; and his wife, Katrina, to whom he confesses his infidelity, leading her to ban him from their home. He also communicates with his sons, Eddie and Sean, who are increasingly concerned about their mother’s emotional breakdown, as well as medical staff at the hospital, local authorities for road closures, and Bethan herself, reassuring her through her labor.
Throughout the drive, Locke engages in imaginary conversations with his deceased father, whom he blames for abandoning their family. He vows not to follow in his father’s footsteps, despite the personal and professional consequences he faces. As he nears the hospital, Bethan calls to share the joyful news of their newborn baby’s successful delivery. The film delves into themes of responsibility, integrity, and the impact of life’s pivotal choices.
