**Storyline:**
In 1868, Jo March, a teacher in New York City, approaches Mr. Dashwood, an editor, who agrees to publish her story. Meanwhile, her youngest sister, Amy, is in Paris with their Aunt March. At a party, Amy confronts their childhood friend Laurie over his drunken behavior, leading to an argument. In New York, Jo’s friendship with Professor Friedrich Bhaer becomes strained after he critiques her writing. When Jo learns that her sister Beth’s health has worsened, she returns home to Concord, Massachusetts.
Seven years earlier, Jo befriends Laurie at a party with her sister Meg. On Christmas morning, the girls’ mother, Marmee, encourages them to share their breakfast with their impoverished neighbor, Mrs. Hummel. Later, they receive a generous gift of food from Mr. Laurence, Laurie’s grandfather. Marmee reads a letter from their father, who is serving in the American Civil War. Jo regularly visits Aunt March, hoping for an invitation to Europe.
A conflict arises when Amy, in a fit of jealousy, burns Jo’s writings. The next day, Amy tries to reconcile with Jo but falls through the ice while skating. Jo and Laurie rescue her. Meanwhile, Mr. Laurence notices Beth’s shy nature and invites her to play his late daughter’s piano. In the present, Meg expresses dissatisfaction with her financial struggles to her husband, John. Laurie apologizes to Amy for his earlier behavior and urges her not to marry Fred Vaughn, but Amy, feeling overshadowed by Jo, refuses both Laurie and Fred’s proposals.
