Description: Sarah Pierce, a struggling stay-at-home mom in a Boston suburb, had once pursued a doctorate in English before putting her career on hold to marry Richard and raise their three-year-old daughter, Lucy. However, her marriage unravels when she discovers Richard’s addiction to online pornography. At the park, Sarah meets Brad Adamson, a law student who brings his four-year-old son, Aaron. Brad is married to Kathy, and while their relationship is loving, it lacks intimacy.
Brad avoids studying for the bar exam, opting instead to play football or watch teenagers skateboard, yearning for the carefree days of his youth. When Brad and Sarah share a kiss in the park on a dare, it causes a stir among the other parents. Despite their growing attraction, they decide to remain friends.
Tensions rise when Ronnie J. McGorvey, a recently released sex offender, is spotted swimming in the pool with children. After police escort him away, rain begins to fall. Sarah and Brad take their children to her house, putting them to bed. Brad discovers a photo of himself in one of Sarah’s books, and they end up sharing an intimate moment in her basement.
Meanwhile, Brad’s friend Larry Hedges, a former police officer forced into retirement after accidentally shooting a teenager, spends his time harassing Ronnie. Ronnie lives with his mother, May, who believes finding a woman his age could help him overcome his pedophilia.
