Description: In 1986, a five-year-old boy named Saroo lives with his older brother Guddu, his mother, and his baby sister in Khandwa, India. The brothers steal coal from freight trains to exchange for milk and food. One night, Saroo insists on accompanying Guddu to work, and despite initial reluctance, Guddu agrees. They arrive at a nearby train station, but Saroo falls asleep on a bench while waiting for his brother. When Saroo wakes up, Guddu is gone. Desperate to find him, Saroo searches the station and boards an empty train. He falls asleep again and wakes up to find the train moving with its doors locked. Days later, the train arrives in Calcutta, where Saroo, unable to understand the local Bengali language, struggles to communicate. He tries to get a ticket home but fails to convey the name of his village. After spending a night with street children, Saroo narrowly escapes kidnappers and eventually encounters a woman named Noor, who offers to help him. However, sensing danger, Saroo runs away and avoids her. After two months of wandering near the Howrah Bridge, a young man takes Saroo to the police. Unable to locate his family, they place him in an orphanage.
