**Storyline:**
Liger is an intense film from the very beginning. Whether it’s the characters, the action scenes, or the background music, everything is amplified and relentless for its 140-minute runtime. Right from the start, it becomes clear that Bollywood struggles to learn from its past mistakes. The film’s portrayal of a protagonist with a speech impairment is problematic and often distasteful. For instance, when the main character, Vijay, tries to introduce himself, it feels awkward and borderline mocking. At times, it seems the filmmakers intentionally limited his dialogues due to his less fluent Hindi, which is disappointing for a pan-India film.
The movie also fails to address previous criticisms of Vijay’s role in the controversial film *Arjun Reddy*. In one scene, Vijay aggressively pushes a female character, Tanya, and elsewhere, a girl is casually referred to as a derogatory term. These moments highlight the film’s sexist undertones and reflect deeper societal issues. While the makers attempt to counterbalance this with a nod to *Kabir Singh* (*Arjun Reddy*’s Hindi remake), it feels forced and insincere.
As for the chemistry between Vijay and Ananya, it falls flat. Their on-screen connection pales in comparison to their interactions during promotions. During dance sequences, Vijay appears affectionate, but Ananya seems more focused on the camera, leaving their chemistry lifeless. Ananya’s performance raises questions about her role—was she acting, overacting, or simply being herself? The lack of clarity leaves the audience confused and unconvinced.
