Description: Holly Berenson, the owner of a small bakery in Atlanta, and Eric Messer, a talented sports director for the Atlanta Hawks, are set up on a blind date by their best friends, Peter and Alison. However, the date ends disastrously, leaving them disliking each other intensely. Over the years, Peter and Alison marry, have a daughter named Sophie, and choose Holly and Eric—who barely tolerate each other—as Sophie’s godparents.
Tragedy strikes when Peter and Alison die in a car crash after Sophie’s first birthday. Holly and Eric discover they have been named Sophie’s joint guardians. With no suitable relatives to care for her, they reluctantly move into Sophie’s home and attempt to co-parent. Their living arrangement proves challenging. One night, while Holly is occupied with a catering job, Eric takes Sophie to a basketball game he’s directing. Sophie’s crying distracts him, causing a major mistake during the broadcast. This leads to an argument between Holly and Eric, though they eventually reconcile.
Holly begins dating Sam, Sophie’s pediatrician, but their date is interrupted when Eric calls to inform them that Sophie has a high fever. At the hospital, Eric witnesses Holly kissing Sam, stirring mixed emotions. As time passes, Holly and Eric realize the financial strain of raising a child, forcing Holly to halt plans for expanding her business. Eric steps in to support her financially, and their relationship deepens. They go on a date, which culminates in intimacy and growing feelings for each other.
Their caseworker, Janine, warns them to commit to either staying together or separating, as their arrangement impacts Sophie’s future. Despite the challenges, they navigate their new roles and responsibilities, learning to balance their personal lives with the needs of the child they both care for.
