Description: In the 1988 film *License to Drive*, Les Anderson, a Southern California teen, attempts to obtain his driver’s license to impress his crush, Mercedes Lane. Despite failing the written portion of the exam, a computer glitch mistakenly passes him based on his twin sister’s high scores. Les eventually passes the driving test but later loses his license when his real scores are discovered.
Determined to keep his plans with Mercedes, Les sneaks out with his grandfather’s prized 1972 Cadillac Sedan de Ville, even though he’s grounded. When Mercedes gets drunk, she and Les accidentally damage the car’s hood. Panicked, Les seeks help from his best friend, Dean, who convinces him to continue their reckless night, unaware Les is unlicensed.
As the night unfolds, the trio causes further damage to the Cadillac while Mercedes sleeps in the trunk. Meanwhile, Les’ mother goes into labor, adding to the chaos. The next day, Les returns home to face his father’s wrath over the damaged car. In a bizarre twist, while rushing to the hospital in reverse due to car issues, a crane accident crushes the Cadillac, leaving Les and his father in shock.
The film blends comedy and teen antics as Les navigates the consequences of his actions while trying to win over Mercedes.
