**Storyline:**
Two years after the events of the first film, LAPD sergeants Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh are investigating a case involving illegal gold krugerrands. Their pursuit leads them to cross paths with Arjen Rudd, a South African consul-general, and his security agent, Pieter Vorstedt, who warn them to back off. As a result, the duo is reassigned to protect Leo Getz, a federal witness with a questionable past, following an attack on Murtaugh’s home.
Soon, it becomes apparent that Leo’s case is connected to the South African smuggling ring. After an assassination attempt on Leo, Riggs and Murtaugh uncover his history of laundering money for vengeful criminals. Despite Rudd invoking diplomatic immunity to protect his associates, Riggs openly targets the South African consulate and forms a romantic relationship with Rika van den Haas, Rudd’s secretary, who opposes his racist beliefs.
With Leo’s help, Murtaugh orchestrates a protest at the consulate, drawing support from anti-apartheid demonstrators. Meanwhile, Vorstedt is sent to eliminate the officers investigating the case. Murtaugh uncovers Rudd’s plan to smuggle funds from Los Angeles to Cape Town. When assassins attack Murtaugh at home, he fights back, but Leo is kidnapped.
In a personal confrontation, Vorstedt reveals he was responsible for the death of Riggs’s wife years earlier. The detectives must now navigate a dangerous web of corruption, revenge, and conspiracy to bring the culprits to justice.
