After the tragic loss of his wife, Martin Riggs, a former Special Forces soldier now working as an LAPD narcotics sergeant, becomes reckless and suicidal. To counter this, Riggs is partnered with veteran homicide sergeant Roger Murtaugh. Initially, the two clash, as Murtaugh doubts Riggs’ mental instability but later realizes his struggles are genuine.

Clues point to a suspect with a special forces tattoo similar to Riggs’. Murtaugh begins to suspect Hunsaker is hiding crucial information.
At Amanda’s funeral, Hunsaker reveals his involvement with “Shadow Company,” a disbanded CIA paramilitary unit that orchestrated operations in Laos during the Vietnam War and controlled the region’s heroin trade. After the war, the group reformed, smuggling large quantities of heroin into the United States under the leadership of retired General Peter McAllister and his associate.
