Description: “Let Us In,” released in 2021, follows the story of Emily, a 12-year-old girl living in a small town where children have mysteriously vanished. After her best friend Rachel dies in a strange incident, Emily becomes an outcast and is bullied by her peers. She spends her time building an extraterrestrial communicator with her friend Christopher. One night, while alone at home, Emily is visited by eerie individuals with entirely black eyes who demand to be let in. The film draws inspiration from the urban legend of the Black-Eyed Children, who are said to appear on Halloween or other spooky nights, targeting children aged 8 to 16. They appear normal except for their black eyes and instill a deep sense of fear in those who encounter them. The advice is clear: never let them in.
The movie aims to revive the spirit of 1980s tween sci-fi and adventure films like “E.T.,” “Explorers,” and “The Goonies,” blending it with a horror twist. Directed and co-written by Craig Moss, “Let Us In” features Makenzie Moss as Emily, a brave young heroine, and incorporates elements of the Black-Eyed Children legend. While the film attempts to reintroduce this subgenre to a new generation, it struggles to achieve the cult status of its predecessors despite a notable performance by Moss.
