Seiji Hasumi, an English teacher, is admired by his students and respected by his colleagues. Despite his charming personality, he harbors a dark secret. After graduating from Harvard University with an MBA and working at a European investment bank, Hasumi returns to Japan to teach high school. However, he is a sociopath with antisocial personality disorder, incapable of empathy.
At the age of fourteen, Hasumi murdered his parents and his former tutor. During his time in the United States, he partnered with an American named Clay, who shared his disturbing interest in killing for pleasure. Although their partnership ended when Hasumi killed Clay by burning him alive, their actions left a trail of gruesome evidence.
Back in Japan, Hasumi takes on issues like bullying and sexual harassment within the school. He addresses cheating by confiscating students’ phones before exams and secretly using a cell phone jammer to prevent dishonesty. Suspicion falls on the school’s physics teacher, Tsurii, but he denies involvement. Meanwhile, a man who frequently complained about students bullying his daughter is found dead after his water bottles are replaced with kerosene, leading to a tragic explosion.
Lesson of the Evil is a chilling tale of deception and violence, revealing the true nature of a seemingly respectable teacher.
