**Storyline:**
Amanda Sanford, a misanthrope, wakes up one day and decides to take her family on an impulsive vacation at an Airbnb on Long Island. Her husband, Clay, is a professor, and their tech-obsessed children, Rose and Archie, accompany them. While shopping, Amanda notices a man buying large quantities of water and canned goods. Upon arriving at the house, they realize they have no cell service. Rose, eager to watch the last episode of *Friends*, is disappointed when she can’t. As deer wander onto the property, the family relaxes at the beach, only to witness an oil tanker run aground. Feeling unsettled, they return home, only to find their television and Wi-Fi are down.
Later that night, while the kids are asleep, G.H. Scott and his daughter Ruth arrive at the house. They explain they are seeking refuge due to a city-wide blackout and offer to pay Amanda and Clay $1,000 to stay overnight. Although Amanda is suspicious, Clay agrees to let them in.
The next morning, Amanda finds several alarming news alerts on her phone about the ongoing blackouts, potential hackers, and even a cryptic message written in symbols. Rose spots a larger herd of deer than before. Clay attempts to drive to town for information but is hindered by a malfunctioning GPS. On his way, he encounters a distressed woman asking for help but drives past her. He also witnesses a drone dropping leaflets in Arabic.
