The film begins with extensive exposition, as the characters provide background details during their bar conversation. This sets the tone for much of the movie, which relies heavily on dialogue. It becomes evident that Layla has moved on with her life, while Missy remains stuck in her high school mentality. Missy even laughs at their past mistreatment of Shana’s sister, who tragically took her own life. The reasoning behind their reunion or Shana’s willingness to associate with Missy remains unclear.
Once the group arrives at Lantern’s Lane, expectations for excitement are quickly dashed. The supposed ghost fails to appear, leaving them to sit in their car and trade insults. They then explore an abandoned house tied to its own horror story. However, the tale lacks fright, and the house appears merely as a vandalized, empty structure. To make matters worse, their car conveniently breaks down, leaving them stranded.
Despite its promising premise, **Lantern’s Lane** struggles to deliver a compelling narrative or genuine scares, relying too much on dialogue and underwhelming plot developments.
