Description: The 2018 film *Laboratory*, based on a popular story by Rabindranath Tagore, is a tribute to the renowned poet on his birth anniversary. The narrative begins with Nandakishore Mallik, portrayed by Kaushik Sen, an Indian Railways engineer. Nandakishore aspires to create a nation where scientists can conduct research without financial hindrances, a challenge faced by pre-independent Indians. He establishes a science laboratory, acquiring various instruments for scientific experiments. He marries Sohini, played by Nandini Ghoshal, a Punjabi woman, and they have a daughter named Neela, portrayed by Darshana Banik.
After Nandakishore’s death, Sohini searches for a young, talented individual to take over the laboratory. She discovers Rebati, a promising scientist who becomes captivated by Neela’s charm. Sohini observes this attraction, and soon Rebati joins the laboratory. However, his focus on research wanes as he becomes increasingly distracted by Neela. Meanwhile, Neela’s friends urge her to claim her father’s property, leading to conflict between Sohini and Neela over Rebati, which ultimately results in a tragic outcome.
The film explores themes of ambition, distraction, and the consequences of shifting priorities, set against the backdrop of scientific pursuits and familial struggles.
