Description: “Kuttavum Shikshayum” (translated as ‘Crime and Punishment’) is a 2022 Indian Malayalam-language action thriller directed by Rajeev Ravi. Starring Asif Ali in the lead role, the film centers around a mysterious robbery that took place in Kerala. Produced by Arun Kumar V. R. under Film Roll Productions in collaboration with Collective Studios, the screenplay was penned by Sibi Thomas and Sreejith Divakaran.
The story is inspired by a real-life jewelry heist that occurred in Kasaragod in 2015. A five-member team from the Kerala Police ventured into a dangerous village in Rajasthan to apprehend the criminals, risking their lives in the process. Sibi Thomas, who was part of the actual investigation team, is portrayed by Asif Ali in the film.
Principal production began in February 2020, with an initial release planned for September 2020. However, delays due to the COVID-19 pandemic pushed the release to May 27, 2022. The film later became available for streaming on Netflix starting June 26, 2022.
