Description: In the 2015 film *Krampus*, the Engel family gathers for Christmas, but their holiday spirit is far from joyful. The story begins three days before Christmas as the dysfunctional family comes together. Young Max Engel, who still believes in Santa Claus, plans to send him a heartfelt letter. His family includes his sister Beth, parents Tom and Sarah, and his German-speaking grandmother, Omi. Sarah’s side of the family also joins the gathering, including Aunt Linda, Uncle Howard, their children, and Aunt Dorothy. However, the family’s tensions grow as Max’s cousins mock him for his belief in Santa, leading to a heated argument. In a moment of anger, Max declares he hates his family and even Christmas. After being comforted by his father, Max tears up his letter to Santa and throws it into the wind.
That night, a violent blizzard hits the town, cutting off power and plunging the family into chaos. When Beth goes outside to check on her boyfriend, she encounters a terrifying horned creature. Despite hiding under a truck, Beth is captured by a sinister jack-in-the-box left by the monster. Tom and Howard later discover her boyfriend’s house destroyed, with eerie goat-like hoofprints and a split chimney. As they return home, they are attacked by an unseen beast lurking beneath the snow. Back at the house, the family boards up the windows to protect themselves. Soon, Howie Jr. is lured to the chimney by a living gingerbread man and is dragged up it despite the family’s desperate attempts to save him. During the chaos, a fire starts, setting the Christmas tree and presents ablaze.
The story takes a dark turn as the family faces the malevolent force of Krampus, a legendary creature punishing those who have lost their Christmas spirit. The film blends horror and holiday themes, creating a chilling tale of family, tradition, and the consequences of losing faith in the magic of Christmas.
