Description: In 1959, an elementary school in Lexington, Massachusetts, marks its opening by holding a competition where students draw their visions of the future. All participants create illustrations except for Lucinda Embry, who, guided by mysterious whispers, fills her paper with a sequence of numbers. Before she can complete the final digits, time runs out, and the teacher collects the drawings. The next day, Lucinda carves the remaining numbers into a closet door using her fingernails. The artworks are placed in a time capsule and opened fifty years later. Lucinda’s sheet ends up in the hands of Caleb Koestler, the nine-year-old son of John Koestler, a widowed MIT astrophysics professor.
John discovers that Lucinda’s numbers correspond to dates, death tolls, and locations of significant disasters over the past five decades, with three events yet to occur. Over the following days, John witnesses two of these predicted tragedies: a plane crash and a subway collision in New York City. Convinced his family plays a crucial role in these events—his wife died in one of the earlier incidents, and Caleb received Lucinda’s message—John becomes deeply involved. Meanwhile, Caleb begins hearing the same whispering voices that once guided Lucinda.
To prevent the final catastrophe, John seeks out Lucinda’s daughter, Diana, and her granddaughter, Abby. Initially skeptical, Diana eventually joins John in visiting Lucinda’s childhood home. There, they find an engraving of Ezekiel’s “chariot vision” by Matthäus Merian, depicting a great sun. They also realize the last two characters of Lucinda’s message are reversed letter E’s, matching the cryptic phrase “Everyone Else” found under her bed. During their investigation, Caleb and Abby, left asleep in the car, encounter the mysterious beings behind the whispers.
