Description: Knights of the Zodiac, also known as *Saint Seiya: The Beginning* in Japan, is a 2023 fantasy action film directed by Tomek Bagiński. The script, written by Josh Campbell, Matt Stuecken, and Kiel Murray, is based on the popular manga *Saint Seiya* by Masami Kurumada. The movie features a star-studded cast, including Mackenyu, Famke Janssen, Madison Iseman, Diego Tinoco, Mark Dacascos, Nick Stahl, and Sean Bean.
The story follows Seiya, a street orphan who learns he is destined to protect the reincarnated goddess of war and save the world. To fulfill his role, he must confront his past and transform into a Knight of the Zodiac.
Released in Japan on April 28, 2023, and in the United States on May 12, the film struggled at the box office, earning only $6.8 million. Critics also largely gave it negative reviews.
The journey to bring *Saint Seiya* to life as a live-action film began long ago, with Kurumada himself expressing interest in an adaptation. Development started in 2016 at Toei Animation, with filming taking place in Hungary between July and September 2021. The movie’s theme song, *Courage* by Pink, was taken from her album *Hurts 2B Human*.
