**Storyline:**
After years of chasing notorious drug dealer Cullen Crisp, LAPD detective John Kimble finally arrests him for murder. A witness confirms Crisp killed an informant while searching for his ex-wife, Rachel, who allegedly stole millions from him before disappearing with their son. Partnered with Phoebe, a former teacher turned detective, Kimble goes undercover in Astoria, Oregon, to locate Rachel and secure her testimony against Crisp. Phoebe is supposed to pose as a substitute kindergarten teacher at Astoria Elementary School, but she falls ill with a severe stomach flu, forcing Kimble to take her place.
The skeptical school principal, Miss Schlowski, doubts Kimble’s ability to handle the job. Despite lacking teaching experience, Kimble adapts quickly, using his police training, positive reinforcement, and a pet ferret to win over the students. He also handles a case of child abuse by confronting its perpetrator, earning Miss Schlowski’s respect.
Kimble grows close to Joyce, a fellow teacher and mother of Dominic, a student in his class. She is estranged from her husband, telling Dominic he lives in France. Through their conversations, Kimble realizes Joyce is Rachel and Dominic is Cullen Crisp Jr. Meanwhile, Crisp is released from prison after the key witness dies from tainted cocaine provided by Crisp’s mother, Eleanor. Crisp and Eleanor head to Astoria to find Dominic, setting the stage for a dramatic confrontation.
