Description: The 2018 movie “Kin” follows the story of fourteen-year-old Elijah “Eli” Solinski, who lives in Detroit with his strict adoptive father, Hal, a widower. While scavenging for copper wiring in an abandoned building, Eli stumbles upon a mysterious scene filled with armored corpses and advanced weaponry. He picks up a strange weapon but panics when it activates and runs away. That same evening, Eli’s older brother Jimmy, Hal’s biological son, returns home after being paroled, much to Hal’s disapproval.
Eli becomes obsessed with the weapon and sneaks out to retrieve it. Upon returning, he overhears Hal and Jimmy arguing. Jimmy owes $60,000 to a local crime lord named Taylor for protection money and pleads with Hal to help him steal the amount from Hal’s employer. Hal refuses and forces Jimmy to leave. Later, Hal catches Jimmy and Taylor trying to break into his workplace’s safe. Hal refuses to back down, prompting Taylor to shoot and kill him. In the chaos, Jimmy kills Taylor’s brother in self-defense and flees with the money. He convinces Eli that Hal is dealing with a work emergency and suggests they meet him at Lake Tahoe. Unbeknownst to Jimmy, Eli secretly brings the weapon, and they leave just before Taylor and his gang arrive to ransack their home. Taylor swears revenge, vowing to kill both brothers to avenge his brother’s death.
As they journey to Lake Tahoe, the brothers grow closer. Jimmy takes Eli to a strip club, where they befriend a dancer named Milly. When a drunk Jimmy causes a scene, the club owner, Lee, and his men attack him. Eli intervenes with the weapon, accidentally firing it and destroying a pool table. The trio flees, with Milly joining them. Meanwhile, two armored figures detect the weapon’s activation and begin tracking them. Jimmy realizes he left the money at the strip club, but Milly helps them retrieve it from Lee during a card game. The three eventually find refuge in a Nevada casino.
